KYOTO

Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city with over 1000 Buddhist Temples.
There are also many beautiful gardens, imperial palaces and Shinto shrines.

The Golden Pavilion, said to represent the Pure Land of Buddha in this world.

There are good luck charms for everything, this one is for passing exams.

Much needed coffee break.

Immaculately raked stones around the rock garden at Ryoanji Temple.

Ninnaji Temple

Five-Storied Pagoda

Kara-mon at Ninjo-jo Castle

The offical Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu

Eating desserts Zashiki style ... nearest I can get to the lotus position.

Entrance to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine

Approximately 10,000 vermilion coloured toriis (shrine gates) stand in the grounds.

It took a while to walk through them all, but it was certainly worth the hike to the top.
